"Our struggles along the road/ how do we manage?"
So last year we embarked to starting our own business and working for ourselves. Well that's our hope. We are not quite there yet. For years we have been looking to do something whereby becoming our own boss and helping our mutual families. We are two black women. One single and the other married. we each have our struggles but we have the same goal and that helps along the way.
"As a single mother of 3, I have seen my shares of drama and have been through a lot. But I'm merely happy that I made it to the other side. Although I haven't seen the end of the tunnel as of yet; I have been striving to built a legacy for my children. I have a great job, beautiful children but I do not have the time I need to be there for them, to go to all their activities. I want to be a stay at home mom with a flexible job. But how am I going to make that happen? I'm glad you asked."
For the past year, my girlfriend and me have been working on an ethnic line of products. These ethnic products are seasonings, relishes and marinades. Thus far, we started the business two years ago. I technically spent hours, days and night working on getting the products off the ground. My friend is more focused in perfecting our recipes while I manage the operational end of the business.
December of last year, we launched a Kick-starter campaign that was successfully funded to help us get off the ground running. We were able to secure funding from 27 backers. It wasn't enough but it was sufficient to get us going.
After the campaign, we worked on increasing our followers on Facebook, Instagram and twitter. We created a LinkedIn company account etc.
Starting a business isn't easy, We have been knocking on doors to open to secure at least one major retailer willing to carry our products. That hasn't been easy. We were lucky to get some small retail stores to carry our products to start which is actually a great milestone considering how far we have come.
This has been hard as the process seems more difficult than expected. We wonder sometimes why we started working on this project and that we may just give up. Then we are reminded of the number of hours, hard work and commitment in making this possible not just for us but for our children. Then we dust ourselves off and keep plugging.
We have to remind ourselves that all is possible and that all we have to do is push forward and have hope that everything is for the greater purpose.
What we find difficult or out of reach today, tomorrow we would look back at the experience and realize it was a necessary step to getting where we are going.
With every step necessary in pushing Mola Foods ahead, we humble ourselves for the hurdles we find on our path. Moreover, when we glance at our children, we are reminded that we have little people who look up to us and that we can't give up.
What lesson would we teach them? We have the responsibility to show that one attains success through hard work, patience and commitment. We work to show the website we spent countless hours to make look decent; that we did not waist time in doing so.
We remind ourselves daily that everybody reaches their goals on their own time. Just like there is a time to be born, walk, talk and die, each one of us have their internal time to reaching their goals. Don't feel rushed or rush into success just because others have already succeeded. Continue the journey to greatness knowing that someday, you will reach your destination.
All you have to do is put in the work. Plant your seeds and see miracles blossom. We have finally created a commercial for our products and have even added our products to online platforms like Amazon and Walmart.com. The work is still ongoing the brand awareness and brand recognition is still ongoing. We believe that with your help, with the help of foodies, Vegan, Vegetarian alike that enjoy good food and good products, that you guys will help us reach our destination. A great support system, may it be from a stranger on the street or a family member is key to unlocking recognition in a community where everyone is now alert and awake with regards to health matters; where people are more focused in becoming healthy, eating healthy and leading a healthy lifestyle for longevity and for good health.
Yes you will have to spend money to buy our products to help launch our company forward but in return you will be creating jobs for other people in the community and you will be helping small business growth. Believe it or not, the growth of small business is dependent on the buying power of its consumers and we hope that our company will be no different.
We believe in helping the community while moving ahead. In return we promise to offer a family friendly work place that will help build generation to come.
